SIG-LIB advances research, development, and utilization of different kinds of libraries (traditional libraries, digital libraries, and smart libraries), across corporate, academic, and public sectors.

About Our SIG

Welcome to the Special Interest Group in Libraries and Librarianship (SIG-LIB). We are a special interest group of the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T). We examine:

  • Librarian aspects: copyright issues, ethic issues, metadata preservation, academic librarian, public librarian,  government librarian, cultural and heritage preservation.
  • Digitization aspects: digitization policies, electronic access and authentication, software, hardware, and peopleware resources supporting digital library services, networked infrastructures, distributed databases, database management.
  • Smart aspects: large language models, generative AI, knowledge graph, natural language processing, machine learning, big data.

SIG-LIB also works to facilitate increased international, interdisciplinary and inter-societal collaboration focusing on libraries and related issues.

How to Join

To be a member, one first needs to be a member of the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T). When completing the Membership Application Form, select the special interest group (SIG) of your choice.
