Webinar: Living in the Misinformation Age: Personal and Professional Perspectives
Amidst massive changes in the infosphere, it is easy to feel overwhelmed as an individual and information professional, but there is hope. Dr. Tara Zimmerman begins this webinar by acknowledging the tsunami of misinformation in our current environment but does not stop there. She goes on to add historical, empirical, and theoretical viewpoints on the current situation that provide broader perspectives and ideas for moving forward with purpose.

Dr. Tara Zimmerman
Tara Zimmerman earned a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Oklahoma and a PhD in Information Science from the University of North Texas. She was selected as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin for two years funded by the National Science Foundation and is currently an Assistant Professor at Texas Woman's University. Dr. Zimmerman has published research in top-tier library and information science journals and presented her work at national and international conferences. She coined the term social noise to describe how observation by other people in the social network influences an individual's observable behavior and much of her research focuses on information literacy, misinformation, and trust. In 2023 she was awarded the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Early Career Development research grant which is funding her current development of a K-5 scaffolded curriculum to teach children about the dangers of misinformation as well as practical critical thinking skills to identify and address it.
