Webinar: Equity in Scholarly Publishing & Access: Challenges and Opportunities for Developing Countries
Scholarly publishing remains dominated by institutions and practices that often marginalize voices from developing regions. This webinar, organized by ASIS&T South Asia Chapter, will bring together academicians and researchers from South Asia to discuss structural changes needed to ensure equitable knowledge dissemination. Experts from academia, practitioners, and policymakers will explore challenges, opportunities, and actionable solutions for enhancing representation and access in scholarly publishing.

Prof. Devika P Madalli
Prof Devika Madalli is the Director, INFLIBNET, India. Dr Madalli has served as a Professor of the DRTC, Indian Statistical Institute and as an adjunct faculty, DISI, University of Trento, Italy. Dr. Madalli has extensive experience in teaching, research and capacity building. Her research interest lies in OERs, Open Data Repositories and Data Management, Knowledge Organization and application of facetization in Information Systems, Faceted Ontologies, multilingual information services. She has served as a member of the Technical Advisory Board of Research Data Alliance (RDA), as an expert/consultant to UNESCO, UNFAO, OECD, Commonwealth of Learning and European Commission. She has been awarded Fulbright and Erasmus Mundus fellowships. She serves as a member of editorial panels of prestigious journals such as Knowledge Organization (ISKO), DSJ, Library Hi-Tech among several others and has published widely.
Prof. Md Anwarul Islam
Prof. Md. Anwarul Islam is serving as a Professor at the Department of Information Science & Library Management, University of Dhaka. He did his PhD from the School of Knowledge Science, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Japan, and a postdoc from the iSchool, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. His research interests lie primarily in the areas of Knowledge Management, Information Behaviour and Informetrics. He was a VLIR-UOS Fellow 2012, University of Antwerp, Belgium, ACRC Fellow 2013, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, ACU Fellow 2016 (UK), University of British Columbia, Canada. He is a recipient of the James M. Crestos Leadership Award 2021 and Lois Lunin Award 2023 of ASIS&T. He has received generous funding support from the Purdue IIL Research grant, Purdue University, USA; ASIS&T Chapter development fund, Centennial Research Grant, University of Dhaka and several grants of UGC of Bangladesh.
Prof. Ruwan Gamage
Prof. Ruwan Gamage is currently a Professor in Library and Information Science at the National Institute of Library and Information Sciences, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has over 24 years of experience as a university academic. He was awarded Doctor of Philosophy from Wuhan University, P.R. China. He is a Fellow of the Sri Lanka Library Association and a member of the University Librarians Association of Sri Lanka. He was the Chair of the South Asia Chapter of the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T). He has contributed over 30 publications in Library Science, Information Management, IT Literacy, and several other LIS-related themes. He also held the esteemed position of President of the Sri Lanka Library Association during 2020-21. He was jointly awarded the Innovator of the Year title of the University Librarians Association of Sri Lanka in 2024 for introducing an automated catalog creation application using an AI platform
