Submission Types

Long Paper

Long papers should discuss, analyze, and critique theories and concepts, or report original, unpublished research; all papers must be substantiated by empirical evidence, analysis, experimentation, simulation, theoretical development, or application in practice. Submissions will be judged on such criteria as quality of content, theoretical or practical significance, method, design, originality, and quality of presentation. The presenters will have 20 minutes to present their long paper at the meeting, followed by 10 minutes for Q&A. Publishing the final paper in the Proceedings is optional.

• Length: The maximum length for a long paper, including title and abstract (not more than 200 words), is 10 pages not including references (i.e., pages with only references do not count toward the page limit). Do not include appendices. Submissions must be formatted according to the AM25 Proposal Template Instructions.
• Any tables, figures, or other graphics should be embedded in the document.
• Peer Review: Submissions must be anonymized as they will be refereed by a double-anonymized review process. Do not include any author names in the paper you upload for review. If accepted, you will add the names later.
• The reviewers won’t see the file name so please name the file [first author’s last name, initial of the first name] AM25LongPaper (Example: Last, Initial AM25LongPaper.doc)

Short Paper

Short papers are similar to long papers in terms of scope, but they may also report work in progress. Submissions will be judged on such criteria as quality of content, theoretical or practical significance, method, design, originality, and quality of presentation. The presenters will have 12 minutes to present their short paper at the meeting, followed by 3 minutes for Q&A. Publishing the final paper in the Proceedings is optional.

• Length: The maximum length for a short paper, including title and abstract (not more than 200 words), is 4 pages not including references (i.e., pages with only references do not count toward the page limit). Do not include appendices. Submissions must be formatted according to the AM25 Proposal Template Instructions.

Panel and Alternative Event

Proposals for 90-minute panels are invited on topics that explore cutting-edge research and design, analyses of emerging trends, opinions on controversial issues, studies of tools and techniques, or contrasting viewpoints from experts in complementary areas of research. Proposals for 90-minute alternative event sessions are invited for high- interactive engagement, which can include (but are not limited to) fishbowls, storytelling, roundtable discussions, and demos/exhibitions. Publishing the final paper in the Proceedings is optional.

If your panel or alternative event is sponsored by a SIG (Special Interest Group), please indicate this in your proposal.

Panel and alternative event proposals should include an overview of the issues to be discussed. They must only list panelists who have agreed to pay the registration fee and to present in person during the conference. The qualifications and contributions of each contributor must be detailed.

• Length: The maximum length for a panel and alterative event submission, including title and abstract (not more than 200 words), is 4 pages not including references (i.e., pages with only references do not count toward the page limit). Do not include appendices. Submissions must be formatted according to the  AM25 Proposal Template Instructions.
• Any tables, figures, or other graphics should be embedded in the document.
• Peer review: Panel and alternative event proposals undergo a single-anonymized review process and must not be anonymized.
• Name the file [first panelist’s last name, first initial] AM25Panel (Example: Last, Initial AM25Panel.doc) or for alternative events: Name the file [first panelist’s last name, first initial] AM25AE (Example: Last, Initial AM25AE.doc)

Panels and alternative events should be highly interactive and participatory, informal, engaging, and pluralistic, and are not a substitute for a set of contributed papers. We aim to select a range of panels to appeal to the wide variety of ASIS&T attendees.

The criteria considered in the review process includes:

• Valuable and interesting contributions to scholarly areas represented by the ASIS&T community,
• A cohesive theme likely to promote lively discussion,
• A clear, feasible, and well-organized session plan that emphasizes audience interaction, and
• A diverse set of panellists who will contribute unique perspectives and content to the session.

Poster

Posters are designed to invite questions and discussion and offer a unique opportunity to present late-breaking results, work in progress, data sets, methodological tools, or research that is best communicated in a poster format. Posters should be highly engaging, and easily presented visually to attract attention during a poster session.

Publishing the final paper in the Proceedings is optional.

Pre-Meeting Workshop

Workshops will be held before the conference. Workshops will be held on Friday and Saturday, November 14-15.

A workshop is a structured meeting or educational program where people collaborate to learn skills, solve problems, or work on a project. Workshops will have a clearly defined set of learning outcomes and provide time for attendees to have hands-on experience with the subject of the learning whenever possible.

If a workshop is sponsored by a SIG (Special Interest Group), please indicate this in your proposal. As the SIG may need time to seek approval to sponsor the workshop, consider reaching out to the SIG as early as possible.

• Proposal: Workshops must be submitted using the Workshop Submission Form.
• Workshop Length: One half day (4 hours, 8am-12 noon or 1-5pm) or one full day (7 hours plus 1-hour lunch break, 9am-5pm).
• Peer Review: Workshop proposals undergo a single-anonymized review process and must not be anonymized.

Pre-Meeting Symposium

A Symposium, typically sponsored and hosted by a Special Interest Group or Chapter, is a half or full-day series of presentations on a specific topic (for example, the topic of a SIG). While the theme for the symposia and the means for collecting and reviewing presentations must be detailed in the proposal, the names of the actual presenters and presentations may be solicited after the symposium is accepted.

Symposia may be offered in-person prior to the Annual Meeting or virtually in conjunction with the meeting. Virtual symposia will be held in early November prior to the conference. Please note, virtual symposia will be recorded to ensure if someone can’t attend due to their time zone, they can watch the recording. All virtual presenters will have to agree to being recorded prior to the submission being accepted. Symposia organizers are asked to indicate in their abstract whether the workshop will be offered virtually or in-person.

All presenters in a virtual or in-person symposium must be registered for the symposium. Please ensure that this is made clear in your call for proposals for the symposium.

• Proposal: Symposia should be submitted using the Symposia Submission Form.
• Symposium Length: One half day (4 hours, 8am-12 noon or 1-5pm) or one full day (7 hours plus 1-hour lunch break, 9am-5pm).
