The Award
Calling all students studying IS/LIS related to ethical issues, legislation, policies, governance,
and regulations affecting the information field and members of the information professions!
The ASIS&T SIG-IEP Inaugural Student Engagement Award is an incredible opportunity to
showcase your research and become an active participant in the ASIS&T community. By
encouraging engagement with SIG-IEP, this award aims to empower and inspire students to
make a difference in the information field.
This highly-regarded award is granted through a unique submission cycle, providing a once-
in-a-lifetime chance for students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge internationally.
The winning research paper will be awarded a certificate and a value of $1500 to support the
student’s registration and travel to attend the 87th Annual Meeting in Calgary, Canada, from
25-29 October 2024.
As an IS/LIS student, this is a unique opportunity to showcase student’s research and
contributions at this years ASIS&T event. With the theme "Putting People First:
Responsibility, Reciprocity, and Care in Information Research and Practice student’s hard
work and dedication can make a real difference in the field. Don't miss this chance to be

Eligibility & Selection
Attention all Master’s and PhD students currently enrolled in Information Science (IS) or
Library and Information Science (LIS) programs! You have the opportunity to be nominated
for an amazing award. If you are interested in actively contributing to the mission and goals
of SIG-IEP, then this is the chance you have been waiting for! The awards will be given to
those who demonstrate a strong interest in contributing to the community. Financial need will

also be considered as part of your eligibility for the awards. Please note that current and
former SIG-IEP Executive Committee members are not eligible for the awards. Apply now

The submitted entries will undergo a rigorous evaluation process, with the selection primarily
based on the quality of the research paper relevance of the theme, and the broader impact
aligning with the SIG-IEP missions. The second criterion is that the research paper should
have already been accepted for presentation at the upcoming 87th ASIS&T Annual Meeting,
and the applicant must hold current membership of ASIS&T. Additionally, applicants are
required to provide a comprehensive justification for their financial need. The evaluation of
all applications will be based on their relevance to the award criteria. The awards will be
granted to the most deserving entries, with a particular emphasis on submissions from
developing countries that show promise in their research.

Jury
The Executive Committee members of SIG-IEP will evaluate and review the student
submissions fairly and impartially and choose the winning entry. The award may not be
presented yearly, depending on the quality and diversity of the requests received. In such a
scenario, the prize money will be held in reserve until the following year.

Nomination Procedure
We strongly encourage individuals to nominate themselves if they believe their submitted
paper is aligned with the themes of the 87th Annual Meeting and the goals and mission of
SIG-IEP. Please note that the nomination will be reviewed only when all the required
materials are received.

The nomination package should include the following components:
1. The nominee’s name, title, institution, phone, and email address
2. An essay (250-500 words) outlining how attendance at the Annual Meeting will
enable the nominee to increase contribution to ASIS&T in general and SIG-IEP in
particular
3. Accepted paper (long paper or short paper)
4. A current resume of the nominee(2 pages)
5. Letters of support of the nominee (i.e. supervisors, 1 page)
6. Explanation of financial need, should the nominee choose to disclose ( 300 words)

Presentation of the Award
The award will be presented during the SIG-IEP business annual meeting at the ASIS&T 87 th
Annual Meeting, Calgary, Canada, 25-29 October 2024
