About Our SIG

SIG AVC explores the applications of information science to the full range of activities in the arts and humanities. This includes the computerized storage and retrieval of text, image and sound; new methods for the organization of scholarly work; bibliometric and other studies of information dissemination; artistic use of information technology; and the social structure of disciplines in the arts and humanities. SIG AH also has an abiding interest in the humanistic implications of information technology and the information society. It also promotes promote the exchange, development, communication, and dissemination of information and research related to visual and graphic information among ASIS&T members and to the larger community of practitioners and scholars.

SIG-AVC was formed by a merger of SIG-AH and SIG-VIS in 2024. Archived information on this webite will be for one or the other SIG but current information is for the new SIG.

How to Join

To be a member, one first needs to be a member of the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T). When completing the Membership Application Form, select the special interest group (SIG) of your choice.
