Africa Chapter

The Africa Chapter is seeking nominations for the positions of Chair, Chair-Elect, Secretary/Treasurer, Webmaster/Communication Officer, Chapter Advisor, and Member Recruitment Officer for 2023-2024.

Please contact Pamela Yonker at pyonker@asist.org with nominations (including self-nominations) for these roles by 22nd September 2023. Please include a 25-word statement of why you should be elected to the role you are applying for.

  • Chair:  Plans and executes Chapter programs and meetings with officers and Chapter members.
  • Chair-Elect: Serves for one year and automatically becomes Chair at the end of that term. Serves as Chair for a year. The Chair-elect works closely with the Chair in planning and executing Chapter programs and shall assume the duties of the Chair in the event of the Chair's absence, resignation or removal.
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Keeps records of all meetings and correspondence to members in iConnect. Keeps all financial records for the Chapter. Responsible for submitting the Chapter Annual Report and budget to HQ in July.
  • Webmaster/Communications Officer: Responsible for updating the Chapter's webpage and social media feeds; responsible for messaging the Chapter through iConnect.
  • Chapter Advisor: Works closely with the Chapter officers to provide guidance.
  • Member Recruitment Officer: Encourage new members to join ASIS&T. Work with HQ to communicate with new members, and welcome them to the chapter. Communicate with lapsed members to renew.

Note that all nominees must be ASIS&T members. All positions, except for Chair-Elect, are one year positions.

Asia Pacific Chapter

The Asia Pacific Chapter has issued a call for papers for the 2023 Annual Meeting of the Asia Pacific Chapter.

The conference theme is "The Inheritance, Integration, and Innovation of Information Science in the Context of Artificial Intelligence Development", which means that in the era of artificial intelligence, information research needs to discuss what is the core knowledge or foundation and how should we integrate with related disciplines and further develop the discipline to make a better and powerful impact for the development of society. As an essential part of ASIS&T, the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference provides a platform to advance information-related studies, and facilitate information professionals and organizations within the Asia Pacific area. ASIS&T Asia-Pacific Regional Conference 2023 (ASIS&T AP 2023) aims to promote the multidisciplinary and ever-evolving area of information science, library and archival science, management science, communication studies, computer science, etc. The conference intends to provide an open forum for the information community to engage with the dynamism of the information society.

We invite you to submit Full Papers (10 pages maximum), Short Papers (4 pages maximum), Workshop proposals (4-6 pages) and Panel proposals (4-6 pages) to ASIS&T AP 2023. All the submissions should be in English. All submissions should be original work that have not been previously published and are not under consideration elsewhere. Submission Guidelines

All submissions must be submitted in PDF format, and submitted to email: asist_ap2023@163.com

The accepted proceeding papers can be recommended to Data and Information Management (DIM), which is indexed by Scopus and EI, as well as other prominent ranking lists. Further peer reviews conducted by DIM may be required for these papers. Additionally, the papers should adhere to the journal's requirements. We are planning to host a hybrid conference. For offline attendees and presenters, the conference will take place at Peking University, Beijing, China, on November 17-18, 2023.

Europe Chapter

The European chapter will be awarding Best European Paper and Best European Student Paper of the year (June 2022 to May 2023)  at the ASIS&T Annual Meeting in London. Deadline for nominations 29 September 2023. Do nominate yourself and/or others.

Middle East Chapter

Dr. Güleda Dogan has been elected as the 2023-2024 Chair of the Middle East Chapter. Güleda Doğan is an Associate Professor at Hacettepe University in the Department of Information Management. She holds an undergraduate degree in Statistics and focused her PhD studies on university rankings. Her research in this field continues even today. Currently, she is leading a national project thataims topromote responsible university rankings.

With 12 years of editorial experience in a Turkish libraryscience journal, Güleda Doğan has a strongbackgroundin academic publishing. She also serves on the editorialboard of ARIST.

Güleda Doğan is a co-founder of the ScholarlyCommunication Network, a platform dedicated to fostering collaboration and communication within theyoung scholarly community.

US Northeast Chapter

(1) The Northeast Chapter of The Association for Information Science & Technology (NEASIS&T) is pleased to announce the NEASIS&T 2023 Conference Support Award winners:

Stacey Brownlie, Tisch Library at Tufts University

Stacey Brownlie joined the Tisch Library at Tufts University in June as a Research Librarian for the Social Sciences. She has worked in libraries for almost twenty years, including as a director, and in business reference, instruction, and distance services roles. She has also worked as an Accommodations Coordinator in a university disability services department. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Stacey now calls both Maine and Massachusetts home.

Allyson Cartter, Simmons University

Allyson Cartter is an MS student with the Simmons University School of Library & Information Science, concentrating in Information Science & Technology. Allyson has a background in political data, digital organizing, and nonprofit marketing and communications. Her areas of interest include digital preservation and stewardship, data management, information policy, and mis- and disinformation studies.

Emma May, Rutgers University

Emma May is a Ph.D. student in Library and Information Science at Rutgers University. Their research uses feminist approaches to examine the political and economic implications of information in activism, and the ways that technology affects movement-building practices.

(2)  NEASIS&T has a new Chair and a new Digital Media & Communications Director on the Executive Committee for 2023-24.

  • Jennifer Sunoo is the new Chair.  Jennifer works in grants data management at Boston Medical Center and is a PhD Student in the School of Library and Information Science at Simmons University. She served as Digital Media & Communications Director for NEASIS&T from 2022-23 and co-chair of the Simmons University ASIS&T student chapter from 2020-2022.  She has also served as a member of the ASIS&T Professional Development Committee since 2021 (which she joined as part of the ASIS&T New Leader Program).
  • Judy Van Alstyne is the new Digital Media & Communications Director.  Judy is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Rochester.  She has also served as a member of the NEASIS&T Programming Committee since 2022.

(4)  NEASIS&T will be holding a Meet and Greet event over zoom on Wednesday, October 4 from 5:30-6:30pm ET.  All are welcome to join us for this free event to meet  ASIS&T members from Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.  Stay tuned for more information on this exciting event!

US South Chapter

The US South Chapter is pleased to announce that Nick Vera, PhD Candidate at the University of South Carolina, has been selected for the Chapter's first US South Conference Support Award. The award supports the participation in the ASIS&T Annual Meeting for one of the members affiliated with organizations from our region (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia).  Our goal is to bring new voices from the region to participate in the Annual Meeting.
