At the Heart of the College: A Tour of the Denison University Library
Denison University is one of the oldest private liberal arts colleges in the state of Ohio. Founded in 1831 in the village of Granville, the college offers courses in the natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, and the fine arts. The William H. Doane Library sits at the heart of the college, on the east side of the Academic Quadrangle. The current library was built in 1936, with added modifications in 1958 and 1981. The tour, given by Moriana Garcia (Natural Sciences Liaison Librarian), will visit the main areas of the building and will conclude with a brief presentation about current tools and ongoing initiatives to support learning in the sciences at the library.
After the tour, we hope you can join us for dinner at a local restaurant (Dutch treat).

Moriana L. M. Garcia,
Moriana is the Natural Sciences Liaison Librarian at Denison University, a position she started in August 2009. Her work involves a close collaboration with teaching faculty; she aims to provide information literacy instruction tailored to science students’ specific needs. As part of this process, she also selects and monitors the library collection in the sciences, focusing on items that support Denison’s liberal arts curriculum. Moriana graduated with a Master of Library and Information Science from Kent State University in May 2009. She also holds an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
